Ronald Clive Davies and I, Colin Cameron
Davies, are first cousins. i.e.Ron’s
father, Jenkin Davies and my father, Percy Llewellyn Davies were
brothers.
The marriage of Percy Llewellyn Davies, (fourth
child of
William Wiltshire Davies and Sarah Powell) and Edith McDougall (seventh
child of Peter
Blackhall McDougall and Grace Cram Cameron) on the 18 July 1935 in the University of Glasgow Chapel, brought the Davies and McDougall families
together.
Percy and Edith had
three sons; Patrick Rhys
(b. 5
November 1936),
Andrew Llewellyn (b. 8
October 1939)
and me, Colin Cameron (b. 25
June 1941).
Cousin Ron has already documented the
Davies family, my paternal ancestors, so I will confine this to an
overview of
my maternal ancestors, the McDougall family.
My mother, Edith, was the seventh and
youngest child of Peter Blackhall McDougall and Grace Cram Cameron and
she was
born in Hunters Quay, Argyllshire on 3 February 1907. Her brothers and sisters were; Mary Cram
(b.1893), Jane Blackhall
(b. 1895), Alan Cameron (b.1897), Iver (b.1898), Peter (b.1899) and
Grace Anne
(b.1904). Edith’s ancestry
fan chart clearly shows her ancestors. From this you will see
that her four
grandparents were Ivie McDougall (b.1837), Jane Blackhall (b.1835),
Angus
Cameron (b.1822) and Mary Cram (b.1834). The McDougall family going
back to
Hugh McDougall all come from the Cowal peninsular, which forms part of
the
McDougall clan homeland in Argyllshire. The Blackhall family come from
the
Scottish Borders along the Tweed and Teviot rivers in what used to be
called
Roxburghshire. Again this is the Blackhall family homeland. Grace Cram
Cameron
was born in Stirling but her father, Angus Cameron was born on the Island of Mull. The Cram
family lived in Glendevon and still do. Edith’s ancestors
have therefore come
from all across Scotland, as the map shows, and this makes ancestor
hunting a real pleasure and a
good excuse for visiting some lovely places.
My research has benefited from a great deal
of work undertaken by my McDougall cousin, Helene Grace McDougall, but
as you
can see there is plenty more work to be done. Any relevant information
would be
very welcome especially concerning the Cameron family on Mull.
