The Siblings of Sarah Powell

Sarah's parents, Rees Powell and Catherine David had six children, three of whom died in infancy. Details of the family can be found in the database by clicking on the link above. Sarah and her surviving sister, Margaret - known as Maggie - remained very close throughout their lives, and their children and grandchildren maintained close contact; indeed one of Maggie's granddaughters, Mary, and I are in regular contact regarding our mutual family history and Mary has provided a great deal of input. The third surviving child of Rees and Catherine was William Powell, who emigrated to Australia; I am also in contact with his descendants in Australia, in particular, his granddaughter Phyllis, who has provided me with numerous photographs and documents relating to William and the Australian branch of the Powell family. One of the many items that Mary has shared with me is this super old photograph, taken in Pyle at the time of Sarah's marriage in 1896.

In the photograph, Sarah and her husband William Wiltshire Davies stand in the doorway; to the far left as we see it, seated, is Sarah's brother William, beside his parents. Sarah's sister, Maggie, stands beside William Davies, with her cousin Lily Powell beside her. In front of Maggie and Lily are Lily's parents, Rees' brother Thomas Powell and his wife, Catherine's sister, Margaret (née David), and their youngest son Gwilym.

The chart shows the marriages of the three children - Maggie, Sarah and William - and their descendants. Although the emphasis of my research has been placed upon my grandmother, Sarah, and her family, thanks in large part to material received from Mary and Phyllis, mentioned above, a good deal of information is also included in the database on the families of Maggie and William. Click on the links in the chart for the history of the families of their spouses - the Howell and Chessell families.
