  • Jenkin(s) Family Connections

It wasn't until I set out to write this section that I realised how many different JENKIN(S) families are connected to our family tree. They seem to be even more numerous that the JONES families!

In almost all cases where a JENKIN(S) appears, married to someone in the tree, I have ascertained only the names of the parents of the individual, and no further research has been done on their origins. So I am unable to say whether or not any of them connect a generation or more further back in time; in the absence of further evidence to the contrary, I have to assume that they are all unrelated. As they are almost all farming families, and concentrated within two fairly small geographic areas, it seems probable however, that there are some relationships amongst them. As and when further research reveals such connections, I shall reflect them in the database and on these pages.

One of these JENKINS families has been the subject of quite extensive research. That research was performed by Mavis Gibson of Penarth and the family which has been the subject of her research is that of her ancestors, David Jenkins and Jane Lewis of the Dduallt, Llanwonno. The Dduallt was one of a handful of farms which constituted the sparsely populated centre of the parish of Llanwonno. To the south of the Dduallt was the land of Mynachdy, farmed for several generations by the Evans family; to the south of Mynachdy was Fanhalog, one of our Davies family farms. Not surprisingly, there was intermarriage between the Davies family of Fanhalog, the Evans family of  Mynachdy and the Jenkins family of the Dduallt. In 1803, Anne Davies married Robert Evans, Anne (#534) was the eldest sister of our great great grandfather Richard Davies, and of his brother William Davies of Cwmsaerbren. Anne and Robert farmed Mynachdy Farm, throughout the first half of the nineteenth century, followed by their eldest son Thomas. Their youngest son Evan, farmed Penrhys Ucha, next to the farm of Anne's brother Evan Davies, and Evan's son Thomas Evans married Sarah Jenkins, daughter of David and Jane Jenkins of the Duallt. Sarah's brother William married another Davies - Lydia, daughter of David Davies.

    Other JENKINS family connections include:
