Marjorie Beryl Jayne,
our Aunt Beryl, married my father's brother, Morgan Rees Davies in
September 1933, in Bristol. She lived to celebrate her 100th birthday
in 2006, then sadly passed away shortly afterwards.
Beryl's
father, Arthur Gerald Jayne was a printer in Bristol, and his family
had lived in and around Bristol for several generations. Beryl's great
great grandfather, William Jayne was born at the beginning of the
nineteenth century in Henbury, Gloucestershire, a few miles from
Bristol, and trained as a shoemaker, but later started a butcher's
business in Lawrence Hill, Bristol.
Athur Gerald Jayne married Florence Mabel Lambert,
who was also born in Bristol, one of nine children of engineer father
Thomas Lambert and mother Ann Amelia Lock. The Lambert family hailed
from the area of Ditcheat and East Pennard in Somerset. I am
grateful to my cousin Graham, one of Beryl's four sons, for providing
me with the copies of the documents which have allowed me to establish
these few facts about Beryl's ancestors. In the fullness of time,
we shall try to expand upon this through further research into this
branch of the family tree.
